Syntax: cast field [on target]
This spell creates a protective magical shield around the target which will absorb physical damage in combat. In my low level experience it appears to absorb all damage received until its protective capacity is exhausted. This protective capacity appears to increase with increased proficiency in the spell, but I don't have a decent quantitative estimate of it.
If no target is specified, the caster is used as the target.
This spell is available to mages with a Magic Defense skill of one. The maximum proficiency in the field spell is five times the level of the mage's Magic Defense skill.
